Dear Parents, Faculty, & Staff,

While this website is primarily a safe online homebase for students in American Myth, we welcome you to use this as a resource as well. For parents, everything you would want to know about the course is on here, and if it isn't, you can ask and it will be considered. For staff, especially but not limited to the English Department, there is always the possibility that the literary resources that are on here could come in handy--for personal edification and life-long learning, for aligning with your own senior curricula, or as an example of how your wiki site could operate.

If you'd like to join the discussion of books and ideas online, you may join the site. All we would ask is that after you've joined you identify yourself in your profile with the following so that students know that they are in the company of safe, responsible adults:

• a photo
• an explanation of who you are
• how you intend to use the site (e.g., I want to get back into the habit of talking about good books or I want to support my son or daughter in his or her preparation for the exam)

As there are communication tools on here (students can send e-mails, instant messages, and comments to their classmates and us), you, of course, could avail yourself of them as well, if you like. The only thing that I would ask is that you refrain from using the communication tools as a way to "police" your son or daughter's participation on the site, censor their ideas or other students' ideas, or interfere in any way with the natural conversations about texts that will occur. Please be positive, supportive, academic, all in the name of creating a greater learning community beyond the classroom.
