The dreamers are the saviors of the world.

James Allen, writer
Browse “visionary” sheets from UTNE Reader’s Nov-Dec. 2008 issue 50 Visionaries Who Are Changing Your World. Choose a visionary who represents an issue or set of issues that you are interested in. Read about this visionary on the colored sheet and get video and links at utne.com/visionaries
Create a list of concepts (especially debatable ones) that will need defining. Create a list of other important questions to ask throughout your research: Who? What? When? Where? Why? How? Create a list of important stakeholders. Include the “visionary” and his or her organization, as well as friends, faculty, family, and community members who would be invested in this issue. When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.

Audre Lorde, writer & activist
Only he who can see the invisible can do the impossible.

Frank Gaines, mayor, Berkeley, California, 1939-1943
Write a short autobiography: Who are you? What do you already know about the issue? What do you currently think, value, assume, believe? Write a short biography of your visionary: Who is this visionary? What is the “system” (or problem or myth) that your visionary is responding to? Why is this “system” a problem?
How is your visionary “bucking” it? Where do you stand now? What have you learned? What will you do with your new-found knowledge, values, beliefs? Create a Works Cited page. Don’t worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you’ll have to ram them down people’s throats.
